Hello everyone!
It’s been quite sometime since I have posted anything on here. I sincerely apologize for that. I have had many computer issues over the past year including spotty internet access and a crashed computer, but now those issues have been resolved and it’s time to start anew.
With a fresh start, I would like to provide an update on my book. When I had limited computer access, I decided I needed to make many revisions to my 200 plus page manuscript. The first change I made was to divide my book into six different levels. This will make the book much easier to manage and less overwhelming for you.
The next change I made was to simplify the exercises. Many of them were too complicated with cross hands and a very wide range. I wanted the exercises to be more accessible to the reader and less intimidating from the very beginning. Sight-reading is already hard enough so it will start at the simplest level possible.
Third, the book will now feature a discussion of pulse and meter so that rhythmic pattens may be more easily deciphered. Once you can keep the pulse steady and play the meter correctly, the flow of everything else becomes much easier.
Other changes are based on the research I have been doing. The color associations I mentioned on a previous blog will be removed, as the articles I read suggested that the use of color does not result in increased sight-reading skills. Much of my book has been generated by research as I want to include methods that have been proven to work. The source of much of my current thinking is found in the book Teaching Piano by Dr. Max Camp, a book that has been repeatedly cited in expert articles.
Until next time,
Robert
